Third charging station opens in Highlands
In less than two years, local electric vehicle organization Evolve KY has installed its third fee-free community EV charger — this one at the Highland Green Building at 1401 Bardstown Road.
The chargers are part of their Adopt a Charger program. Evolve KY members first scout out potential appropriate sites for EV chargers, locations such as parks and shopping areas where drivers could easily linger for 45 minutes or more — plenty of time to “top up” their cars.
Then the organization provides an estimate of charger and installation cost and funds the location.
Sites can choose to self-fund — or seek a business, foundation or individual to pay for it.
The Highland Green Building is a LEED Gold building and has numerous green features including solar panels on the roof, a geothermal heating and cooling system and honey bees.
Evolve KY has also placed chargers in the trendy NULU area and in the up and coming Portland neighborhood.
The group’s goal is to provide a dozen such community chargers in and around Louisville by year’s end.
